I have a website with less than 3K visits a year. Only customers with an Account with me who have login credentials can see my product pricing and make a purchase onsite; therefore, indexing/page ranking is not a concern for me.

My agency suggests that my product catalog be corrected to a parent/child relationship. Currently, each product variation has its own SKU and PDP. As a result, product findability: Site Search, Categorization, and Facets are a mess.

Is there any way I can keep my current URL (branding purposes)? I thought we could delete all pages (PLPs & PDPs) and create all new and enforce 301 redirects.

      Thoughts?

If your current site has strong SEO, domain authority, and solid traffic, it may be better to optimize and refresh it. However, if the site no longer aligns with your brand, has deep-rooted technical issues, or the content is outdated and aimed at the wrong audience, starting fresh with a new, optimized site could be more effective. Weigh the cost and time for each option, and consider an SEO audit to guide your decision.

Deciding whether to keep your existing site or start a new one depends on several factors. If your current site has a significant amount of high-quality content, established backlinks, and a strong brand presence, it may be better to improve and optimize it. However, if your site suffers from severe technical issues, high spam scores, or a poor reputation that can't be easily fixed, starting a new site might be a more effective long-term solution. Assess the overall health and potential of your existing site before making a decision. At some point I was also thinking the same but I have solved many problems for the website and now It up and running.

Given that your website has low traffic and you need to improve the organization of your product catalog, it may be beneficial to start over with a revised structure while keeping your current URLs for branding. By removing existing pages and implementing 301 redirects, you can maintain your site's identity while improving product discoverability and user experience. We work closely with agencies to ensure a seamless transition and prioritize user accessibility for optimal results.

I think you should keep this website and try your best because To rank new, you'll also have to work hard, site rank is not easy.
I have the same issue with my website, but I'm doing my best to increase its value in the SERP. The best things are three.

              1. UI/UX
              2. Quality of Content
              3. Quality of Backlinks (do follow and no follow both)

The decision to keep your existing site or start a new, including "8171" depends on various factors, including your current site's performance, goals, and required improvements. Evaluate these factors before making a choice.

I've been grappling with a dilemma and would greatly appreciate some insights. My website, which receives fewer than 3,000 annual visits, operates on a unique model: only customers with login credentials can access product pricing and make purchases on the site e.g. https://rainguardroofs.com/. This setup essentially eliminates the need for indexing and page ranking. My agency has proposed a restructuring of my product catalog into a parent/child relationship.

Yes, you can keep your current URL for branding purposes and still improve your product catalog's organization. It sounds like your agency is recommending that you implement a parent/child relationship for your product catalog to improve the findability of your products. This is a common approach for eCommerce websites that have a large number of variations for each product.

If you choose to implement this approach, you will need to make changes to your website's information architecture, including your site search, categorization, and facets. You may also need to update your product pages to reflect the new structure of your catalog.

Regarding your question about deleting all pages and creating new ones with 301 redirects, this is possible, but it can be risky. If you do not set up the redirects correctly, you could lose traffic and rankings for your website. It's essential to ensure that all of your old URLs redirect to the corresponding new URLs correctly. It's also important to note that it may take some time for search engines to crawl and index your new pages, so you may experience some fluctuations in your traffic and rankings during this period.

Overall, implementing a parent/child relationship for your product catalog is a good approach to improve the findability of your products. However, it's important to proceed with caution when making significant changes to your website's information architecture.

Is My Site Structure Suppressing Product Pages

site structure woocommerce product page sub-directories

Hey Guys, I've built some ecommerce sites using WooCommerce, and I've been auditing some of the sites to see why I'm not getting more traffic to my product pages. I have several informational blog posts and resources that are getting a lot of traffic, but my product pages aren't ranking very well. There are two things that I think could be causing the issue, but I could use some extra eyes on this. Products are listed several sub-categories down in the structure of the site. For example, this product is listed under a fifth level sub-category: /product-category/ ->FIRE SAFETY » FIRE EXTINGUISHERS » PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS » FIRE EXTINGUISHER ACCESSORIES » FIRE EXTINGUISHER BRACKETS Also, I checked to see what Google's indexed under the /product/ directory, which is the default format for WooCommerce products. It looks like all of my products are given lower authority than other top-level directories, including /product-tag/ and /product-category/ It seems like an adjustment to how my products are structured in the site might go a long way. If you have any experience with this and could weigh in on it, I'd appreciate it.

Unsolved URL dynamic structure issue for new global site where I will redirect multiple well-working sites.

                              url issue urlredirect optimization

Dear all, We are working on a new platform called [https://www.piktalent.com](link url), were basically we aim to redirect many smaller sites we have with quite a lot of SEO traffic related to internships. Our previous sites are some like www.spain-internship.com, www.europe-internship.com and other similars we have (around 9). Our idea is to smoothly redirect a bit by a bit many of the sites to this new platform which is a custom made site in python and node, much more scalable and willing to develop app, etc etc etc...to become a bigger platform. For the new site, we decided to create 3 areas for the main content: piktalent.com/opportunities (all the vacancies) , piktalent.com/internships and piktalent.com/jobs so we can categorize the different types of pages and things we have and under opportunities we have all the vacancies. The problem comes with the site when we generate the diferent static landings and dynamic searches. We have static landing pages generated like www.piktalent.com/internships/madrid but dynamically it also generates www.piktalent.com/opportunities?search=madrid. Also, most of the searches will generate that type of urls, not following the structure of Domain name / type of vacancy/ city / name of the vacancy following the dynamic search structure. I have been thinking 2 potential solutions for this, either applying canonicals, or adding the suffix in webmasters as non index.... but... What do you think is the right approach for this? I am worried about potential duplicate content and conflicts between static content dynamic one. My CTO insists that the dynamic has to be like that but.... I am not 100% sure. Someone can provide input on this? Is there a way to block the dynamic urls generated? Someone with a similar experience? Regards,

404s on subfolder - how to redirect?

                              404s redirects

                              Hi all,
we have a lot of 404s to subfolders. Eg
                              www.website.com/blog-post-title/imagename/
www.website.com/blog-post-title/author/ We don't have these subfolders or blog posts anymore.
How do i redirect them? These links (404s) don't seem to have any value or backlinks. Thanks,
                              Stef

When to re-write and redirect a blog url?

urlredirect optimization content marketing seo tactics content development redirect

What are best practices for rewriting (and then redirecting) blog URLs? I refresh old blog posts on our blog every month and many of them have URLs that are too long or could be improved. However, many of them also already get decent organic traffic and I don't want to lose traffic due to a URL redirect. Are there any best practices or "rules" I can follow when deciding whether to re-write and redirect blog URLs?
                              Thanks!

Does changing/shortening a url hurt SEO?

                              urlredirect optimization

Hi all, I am in the process of making small optimization changes to my site. I noticed Moz identified quite a few URLs that could be shortened. I intend to shorten these URLs and create 301 redirects to ensure website users land on the right page. My question is, will this change in URL damage rankings and engagement(assuming the URL remains content relevant)? I have read in some places that when creating URL redirects for a change in domain, people saw a dip in rankings and engagement. I, however, am not intending to change the main domain of the site, but rather the URL slug. Any thoughts?
