      Hi,

I have a large WordPress blog with thousands of posts. By default, the blog homepage contains the excerpt of each posts. As there are so many posts, the homepage is paginated(Totally 1341 pages)

I use siteliner to check and find a lot of duplicate contents on the blog homepage. So, what should I do with it? Should I noindex the homepage and all the paginated pages accordingly?

      Thank you

Hi, so we can only mention the solution that we found for our business. So, it might not be the same for your business, but our organic seo for business was badly affected by very slow website hosting.

@ccw Homepage Woes on WordPress Site 🤔

          Hey Moz Community!

I hope everyone is doing well. I could really use some expert advice here. 🙏

So, I've got this WordPress website, https://leshorairepriere.fr/ , and I've been facing a bit of a head-scratcher. Occasionally, the homepage decides to take a breather and refuses to load, while the rest of the pages are as chipper as ever you may check at: Horaire des Prières Marseille.

I've played detective and tried my best to sniff out the issue, but it's playing hard to get. 🕵️‍♂️

Has anyone encountered something similar? Any ideas on where I might start digging to get this sorted out? Your insights would be absolute lifesavers!

          Thanks a bunch! 🙌

If you have a large WordPress blog with thousands of posts and you're concerned about duplicate content on the homepage and paginated pages, there are a few options you can consider:

Implement a "Read More" or "Continue Reading" link: Instead of displaying the full post on the homepage, you can modify your theme to display only a short excerpt of each post and provide a link to the full post. This can help reduce duplicate content issues and improve user experience.

Use pagination correctly: If you choose to keep the paginated format, make sure you're implementing it correctly. Each paginated page should have a unique URL, and you should include rel="prev" and rel="next" tags in the head section of your HTML to indicate the paginated sequence.

Set canonical URLs: Implement canonical URLs to indicate the preferred version of the page. For paginated pages, the canonical tag should point to the first page in the sequence. This helps search engines understand which version of the page is the original and avoids duplicate content issues.

Noindex the paginated pages: If you find that the paginated pages are causing significant duplicate content issues, you can choose to add a "noindex" meta tag to those pages. This tells search engines not to index the paginated pages while still indexing your individual post pages.

If you have a huge WordPress site with hundreds of entries and the homepage is paginated, utilising the "noindex" tag for the homepage and all paginated pages may be a smart idea. This can aid in avoiding duplicate content concerns and ensuring that search engines only index specific post pages.
But, before making any modifications, it is critical to thoroughly examine the influence on your website's SEO. If your homepage is a big source of traffic and leads for your website, for example, you may want to investigate alternate options, such as creating pagination using "rel=next" and "rel=prev" tags, or installing a canonical tag to refer to the first page of the paginated material.

Finally, the optimal course of action will be determined by the individual conditions of your website and your SEO objectives. If you're cofused what to do, it's critical to thoroughly explore all possibilities and talk with an SEO specialist.

@ccw Hi, why don't you use a theme that helps you solve that problem on your home page? A home page should show an excerpt or links to the most recent posts or content. That's the universally accepted industry standard.

Only my homepage ranks for my keywords, should I delete my other pages?

                  keywords ranking homepage seo

I am an independent artist and all of my business inquiries come through my website (www.ChrisCarlsonArt.com). Over the last 6 months I have been trying to get pages other than my homepage to rank for my keywords, but I haven't made any progress. I worry that I am cannibalizing my keywords since my pages all have similar information. Should I just delete my other pages and focus on ranking my homepage? Also, if I delete my other pages will that have a negative impact on my rankings?

Is it Ok to have multiple domains (separate website different content) rank for similar keywords?

                  multiple domains duplicate content

Is it 'OK' to have multiple domains in the following instance? Does Google actively discourage multiple (but completely different sites) domains from the same company appearing in the search results for the same and or similar keywords if the content is slightly different? This is where the 'main site' has the details, and you can purchase product, and the second site is a blog site only. We are creating a separate content blogsite; which would be on a second domain that will be related to one portion of content on main site. They would be linking back and forth, or maybe the blog site would just link over to the main site so they can purchase said product. This would be a similar scenario to give you an idea of how it would be structured: MAIN SITE: describes a few products, and you can purchase from this site SECOND SITE, different domain: a blog site that contains personal experiences with one of the products. BOTH sites will be linked back and forth....or as mentioned maybe the blog site could just link over to the 'main site' Logo would be a modified version of the main logo and look and feel of the sight would be similar but not exactly the same. MORE INFO: the main site has existed for way over 10 years, starting to gain some traction in an extremely competitive market, but does not rank super high, is gaining traction due to improvements in speed, content, onpage SEO, etc... So in addition to my main question of is this 'ok' to have this second domain, also will it hurt the rankings or negatively affect the 'main' site? Wondering about duplicate content issues, except it will be slightly different...

                  Blog On Company Website

I have a huge blog which is connected to a company website. This blog is full with dead links and spam comments. Is it worth to clean up? The website itself ranks very well in search engines. I'm amazed with all de spam that it still ranks. Do you think by removing all de dead links and spam the site will improve ranking in search results?

Best way to separate blogs, media coverage, and press releases on WordPress?

I'm curious what some of your thoughts are on the best way to handle the separation of blog posts, from press releases stories, from media coverage.  With 1 WordPress installation, we're obviously utilizing the Posts for these types of content. It seems obvious to put press releases into a "press release" category and media coverage into a "media coverage" category.... but then what about blog posts?  We could put blog posts into a "blog" category, but I hate that.  And what about actual blog categories?  I tried making sub-categories for the blog category which seemed like it was going to work, until the breadcrumbs looked all crazy. Example: Homepage > Blog > Blog > Sub-Category Homepage = http://www.example.com First 'Blog' = http://www.example.com/blog Second 'Blog' = http://www.example.com/category/blog Sub-Category = http://www.example.com/category/blog/sub-category This just doesn't seem very clean and I feel like there has to be a better solution to this.  What about post types?  I've never really worked with them.  Is that the solution to my woes? All suggestions are welcome! EDIT: I should add that we would like the URL to contain /blog/ for blog posts /media-coverage/ for media coverage, and /press-releases/ for press releases.  For blog posts, we don't want the sub-category to be in the URL.

                  Tags on blog post

I have just ran a report on SEOMOZ and it's came back saying I have over 1000 pages on my website with duplicate content, I thought wow that's not good, however when I looked at the report it was counting duplicate content because I have used more than one tag on a blog post, for example the blog post: www.example.com/blog-post/ Has the tags example 1 example 2 example 3 Meaning I have these URLs www.example.com/blog/tag/example-1 www.example.com/blog/tag/example-2 www.example.com/blog/tag/example-3 All 3 URLs above have the same content as www.example.com/blog-post/ because of the tags, is this a problem? Thanks

                  Duplicate content on ecommerce sites

                  duplicate content

I just want to confirm something about duplicate content. On an eCommerce site, if the meta-titles, meta-descriptions and product descriptions are all unique, yet a big chunk at the bottom (featuring "why buy with us" etc) is copied across all product pages, would each page be penalised, or not indexed, for duplicate content? Does the whole page need to be a duplicate to be worried about this, or would this large chunk of text, bigger than the product description, have an effect on the page. If this would be a problem, what are some ways around it? Because the content is quite powerful, and is relavent to all products... Cheers,
